Monkshood

Aconitum napellus
Monkshood

Called monkshood because the flowers look like dark purple cowls, this poisonous plant is also known as aconite or wolfsbane (though wolfsbane is Aconitum vulparia and has pale or yellow flowers). Monkshood is considered sacred to Hekate and was classically thought to have sprang from the spittle of Cerberus; it's appropriate as an offering to the Dark Lady or in spells to open the gates of the underworld. Monkshood flowers also boost oracles and deep trances, workings which benefit from the use of the hood of night. Lastly, given its historical use to poison arrows and darts, this herb is useful for blasting.

We offer dried flowers and leaf. Aconite contains deadly toxins that cause nerve and respiratory paralysis. Do not consume.
