Land-based witchcraft is the practice and art of communicating with the living Spirits of the Land to aid in magic. It is based in bioregional animism, and rooted in the local landscape. It is the practice of the herbwife gathering willow-bark by the stream and the black-cloaked witches atop the hill and beneath the oak, calling upon the forces of land and sky.
We are offering a five-week course on Land-Based Witchcraft, culminating in a rite to establish a local working site. Through exercises and discussion you will learn to enter trance states to contact and experience the spirits of the land, dowse for a suitable site, and prepare appropriate offerings. This course is an outgrowth of workshops and lectures we have presented at festivals over the last eight years, and our goals for the course are two-fold. One, we will provide participants with the techniques and grounding in land-based witchcraft to establish a personal practice rooted in the bioregion of Eastern TN. And two, we will establish a local working site that participants can use and explore further when the class is complete. We hope you will consider joining us.
Time: Mondays, October 8 through November 5 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Location: Our home in North Knoxville. Cost: $20 per week, sliding scale. Costs cover materials used during the class, materials provided to students to complete homeworks, and compensation for instructor's time. However, we do not want cost to be a factor in deciding to sign up, and so cost is flexible to accommodate financial need. Let us know about your situation when registering.
Instructors: We are two traditional witches initiated in a West Country tradition who have been teaching magic and witchcraft for over a decade. Joe has previously taught the Elements of Magic and Iron Pentacle classes for Tri-State Reclaiming in West Virginia, and Doug has taught informal classes in Rome, GA. More recently, we have given numerous lectures and workshops together on a variety of magical topics at Pagan Spirit Gathering, Starwood, and the Between the Worlds men's gathering. Additionally, we own and run Otherworld Apothecary, a small occult shop where we make and sell incense, oils, and other sundries for natural magic, as well as provide magical services for clients.
Inquiries: If you are interested in registering for the course, please tell us a bit about yourself and why you are interested. You can contact us using the form below or by sending email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
